When you need FEM analysis
Finite element simulation shows how a structure will behave before it is built, or explains why an existing structure does not behave as it should. Companies bring us in to:
- validate a design before production;
- check and certify structures, equipment and machines, with the calculation report for the technical file;
- reduce the weight or increase the stiffness and strength of a component;
- predict failures, or analyse their causes;
- support the certification of structural modifications.
The analyses we carry out
- Linear and non-linear staticIncluding strong geometric and material non-linearities and contact.
- FatigueFatigue life analysis, stress-life and strain-life.
- Dynamic and modalNatural frequencies, dynamic response and vibration.
- Kinematics and multibodySystems with several moving bodies, including flexible ones.
- ThermalTemperature distribution and its effects on the structure.
- Fluid dynamics (CFD)Flows, hulls and propellers.
- Impact and shockFast phenomena, impacts and failure prediction.
- Pressure vesselsChecks of pressurised components and systems.
- Structural optimisationTopology optimisation to reduce weight or increase stiffness and strength.
- Composite materialsAnalysis of laminates and composite parts.
Structural checks and standards
We carry out structural checks to EN 1090 and the Eurocodes, with a calculation report for the technical file. We check structures and stands for testing and maintenance to EN ISO 14122-3 as well, and custom lifting equipment for large components.
We also work with sector standards: EN 12663 in rail, classification society rules in marine, MIL, PED and ATEX where the application requires it. When needed, we back the FEM model with hand calculations.
Stand-alone service or part of the supply
We carry out FEM analysis and structural checks as a stand-alone service too, on the client’s designs and structures. When we design and build the machine or equipment ourselves, the calculations are part of the design and the calculation report goes into the technical file of the supply. Either way, the quotation is free.
From model to test
When the problem is complex, a model alone is not enough: we build a technology demonstrator and run preliminary experimental tests to check the real behaviour and tune the model. For testing we also design custom test benches.
The software we use
For analysis and simulation we use the Dassault Systèmes SIMULIA suite: Abaqus, fe-safe for fatigue, Tosca for structural optimisation, Simpack for multibody systems and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. We are a Dassault Systèmes Bronze Partner: we use these tools every day on our own projects, we do not just sell them.
Sectors
Marine, aerospace, defence, transport and industry: from composite and metallic hulls to lifting equipment, from test and maintenance structures to components for remotely piloted aircraft.

How we work
- Requirements and standardsWe gather loads, constraints, materials and applicable standards.
- ModelFrom the CAD model we build the finite element model, first simplified then detailed.
- AnalysisWe simulate the load cases and check stresses, strains and displacements.
- OptimisationWhere needed we propose changes and check them on the model.
- ValidationIn complex cases we compare the model with experimental tests.
- Calculation reportWe document assumptions, methods and results, ready for the technical file.
Quality
We are certified to UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 for the design of machines and mechanical components and for technical services for the mechanical sector.
