Design of pharmaceutical powder blending and dosing machines

The project

We work with a builder of machines for the pharmaceutical industry. We started by adapting some existing machines to new formats; the customer then entrusted us with the complete design of new machines, working as if we were its R&D department. Starting from our designs, the customer developed the various versions for its catalogue.

The machines

Pharmaceutical powder blenders. Used in capsule production, they pick up process containers from the front and rotate them at an inclination designed for uniform blending. We designed two versions for containers of different sizes.

Pharmaceutical powder dosing machine. It doses powders from silos into containers of different sizes, with dedicated adaptation tooling and high dosing accuracy. It can handle potentially explosive powders: the working environment is classified as ATEX and the machine integrates the required safety systems.

Stages of work

• Conceptual and detailed mechanical design from the customer’s specification
• Machine safety design, with active safety systems and dedicated design choices
• FEM structural analysis of the most stressed components, designed for infinite fatigue life
• Technical file, manuals and risk assessment for CE marking
• Support during machine production
